The Zebra -- recently named one of Austin’s Best Places to Work by the Austin Business Journal -- is expanding our engineering team. We're looking for someone with sharp technical chops, lots of experience, and great mentorship skills to build upon and grow our existing engineering efforts.

This Software Engineer I (known internally as a " Data Engineer I") will be responsible for understanding the correct tools to use for data integrations, and subsequent implementation of data integrations which will enable our data team to collect, connect, centralize, and curate our data.  You will immediately contribute to our goal of using our rich datasets to make smarter business decisions.  You should love releasing well-tested code, love working with data and be thrilled about having increasing responsibilities within a fast-growing company in a massive industry.

We’re in the process of repositioning the company to support a remote workforce. Like many companies, pre-COVID we weren’t set-up this way. We’ve recently made the shift to from an in-office organization to a hybrid model (supporting employee work either fully remote, a mix of in-office and WFH, or solely working in-office). While we are open to remote work across the contingent US, we are still in the process of building our systems to support work in all states. We’re excited to broaden our talent reach across the US! We will not be supporting work based out of the following states: CA   This position is not currently eligible for visa sponsorship


  • Have a meaningful role in the consultation and development of reliable, effective and scalable data integrations
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert in data integration tools like Funnel.io and FiveTran.
  • You will work with a variety of stakeholders and users creating new data integrations and ensuring we are leveraging the right tools for existing integrations
  • Create third party datasets that allow for more advanced reporting and analytics capabilities
  • Document data integration sources and destinations and upstream or downstream dependencies


  • 1+ years of any professional programming experience (Python, Java, Ruby, C++, C#, Go, Scala, etc) in a data focused role.
  • Knowledge of scalable data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, etc) OR with Hadoop, Spark, Flink, and/or related technologies
  • 1+years of SQL skills
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases
  • Comfort with the Linux/Unix command line and shell scripting
  • Understanding of one or more of the following languages: Python, Java, Scala


  • 1+ years experience working with data systems
  • A passion for problem solving and performance tuning with strong analytical capabilities
  • A desire to follow and advocate for exceptional software engineering and data integration processes
  • A desire to learn quickly and take on more responsibility and ownership
  • Experience with AWS (Amazon Web Services)
