Job Description

Our team, Icarus, is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and we are looking for a diligent Staff Software Engineer to join our team.

As our team member, you'll help us build beautifully simple, highly impactful user experiences, which will help Zendesk reach its goal to grow the company’s revenue to $2 billion and above. In order to achieve this goal the product leadership has defined having a unified Admin Experience - which is what our team is working on - as one of the key components.

What you will get to do:

  • Work side-by-side on a close-knit, highly productive team.

  • Participate in and/or lead all phases of the software lifecycle including discovery, technical design, defining scope with Product Managers, prototyping, implementing, testing, rollout, and maintaining performance of critical features of Zendesk.

  • Deliver enterprise grade software and experience some of the challenges presented working at a global scale, working on both existing and new product features.

  • Champion code ownership, standard methodologies, high quality code with corresponding test coverage, to ensure reliability and stability are kept front-of-mind.

  • Sharing your knowledge of engineering with the rest of the team, our peers in our organization, and the company.

What you bring to the role:

  • 6+ years of experience designing, building, and shipping features to production in frontend technologies such as React (preferable), Ember (or similar).

  • 6+ years working with: JavaScript (including knowledge of upcoming features), HTML, DOM, CSS, CSS preprocessors / SASS, CDNs, browser cache expiry/cookie domains, asset versioning.

  • 4+ years using/understanding REST principles to help drive better, more usable API designs.

  • Adept at turning wireframes and mockups into HTML / CSS, with a solid understanding of Sketch / Figma or other design software.

  • Familiarity designing and working on projects at enterprise level scale.

  • Prior experience leading, mentoring, and supporting more junior engineers.

  • Git & Github experience, comfortable handling complex merges with frequent regularity.

What would be nice to have:

  • Exposure to and experience with server-side languages (Ruby / Scala / Go) would be an excellent addition!

  • Experience with GraphQL is a plus.

  • TypeScript experience is also outstanding!

  • Contributions to open source frontend libraries is also great to see.
