The Professional Services Global Solution Architect (GSA) for Automation provides a mix of customer-facing architecture and design activities as well as internal solution development and enablement.
The GSA is a network automation expert with an understanding of network security. The GSA knows how to make the best use of automation techniques to optimize the deployment and operation of security platforms. The GSA drives the design of new solutions and optimizes the solution by leading the initial execution of projects.
The GSA is responsible for managing our knowledge and Intellectual Property (IP) across the global community of automation consultants and partners. The GSA also leads efforts to educate the community and partners so that they can deliver our solutions.
This is a technical role. The GSA will be required to oversee software development and maintain expertise on the automation tools and techniques relevant to network automation. Our emphasis is on third-party automation platforms that will be integrated with Palo Alto Networks products.
The position requires strong leadership and communication skills. The GSA will have to rally our internal automation community to gain consensus on tools and techniques. The GSA will then have to communicate the shared vision to consultants, account teams, partners, and customers.
One-quarter of your time will be spent identifying opportunities where automation can be used to optimize the deployment and operation of Palo Alto Networks platforms. You will work with product-line Solution Architects to develop services with clear value propositions. You will then communicate the value propositions to Services Sales, Account Management, and Customers
One-quarter of your time will be spent overseeing the development and management of automation assets that optimize our service delivery. You will make architectural decisions. You will educate PS consultants and partners on the availability of automation assets. You will enable consultants and partners on the use our IP. You will also enlist the support of contributors.
One-quarter of your time will be spent delivering customer projects. You’ll do this in support of two goals. First, this will enable you to measure the fitness of our automation assets and solutions. Second, It will provide you with the opportunity to train our consultants.
One-quarter of your time will be spent refining our services and automation based on lessons learned from the field. This will include feedback from the pre-sales process and from the delivery of projects. You’ll use these learnings to improve our automation, our methodology, and our go-to-market story.
Ability to lead without authority by communicating a strategy and gaining consensus and support
Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and related automation technology (Ansible, Terraform)
Broad understanding of network and network security architectures
Experience with common network automation technologies such as Python, markup languages, and CI/CD tools and processes
Strong knowledge of agile software development methods and the use of Git
Experience deploying complex technical solutions in customer environments as a consultant or team leader
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Travel (10-15%) to Palo Alto Networks offices for workshops with the possibility of travel to customer sites
BS in Computer Science or equivalent education/training/experience

Salary disclosure required by sb19-085 for positions located in the state of Colorado: If hired in Colorado, this position starts at a salary of $145,200/yr. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary. Restricted stock units and bonus pay may also be offered as part of this compensation package, as well as benefits that include: flexible paid time off, employee stock purchase program, medical, dental, vision, 401K, life, and disability insurance.
