We’re looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to help us build and deliver best-in-class products which provide high value to our customers and delight our end-users while aligning to our business objectives.   As a Senior Software Engineer at StraighterLine, you’ll be responsible for technical design, implementation and maintenance of product features, including reviewing and refining user stories, providing technical feasibility review during feature definition, implementing features and enhancements as well as resolving bugs. You will work closely with product managers to understand business and technical requirements and with other members of the software development team to ensure that features are implemented efficiently and securely using industry-standard best practices. The Senior Software Engineer ensures that product features are implemented in a manner that produces scalable, secure, efficient and easily maintainable code and also provides coaching and mentoring to more junior members of the team.

General Responsibilities:

    • Work within a team to review, plan and implement new features
    • Build highly performant, fault tolerant, high-quality, scalable software
    • Leverage technical knowledge, skills, and experience to improve department processes and software quality
    • Collaborate effectively with on-shore and off-shore team members
    • Implement, test, and troubleshoot scalable and secure microservices
    • Implement, maintain, and improve user interfaces
    • Implement automated unit and integration tests
    • Conduct code reviews of work submitted by other team members
    • Proactively identify and resolve security risks throughout the application
    • Write clean, efficient, reusable code to complete company initiatives
    • Upgrade plugins and code bases to stay secure and compliant
    • Participate in planning, retrospectives, demos and daily stand-ups
    • Stay up to date with latest and emerging technologies
    • Provide coaching and mentorship to junior team members

Required Skills and Abilities:

    • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team including on-shore and off-shore members
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Software Development processes and best practices
    • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality software including automated test coverage

Education and Experience:

    • 5+ years of experience with Java
    • 1+ years of experience with Apache Kafka
    • 3+ years of Javascript experience
    • 1+ years working with Vue.js or React.js
    • Knowledge of and experience with implementation of microservices
    • Experience with communications using WebSockets
    • Experience with Spring Boot
    • Experience with Git and JIRA
    • Experience with building bootstrap web pages
    • Experience with code quality and Javascript testing (eslint, Jest)
    • Experience with javascript package managers
    • Experience with Docker Containers
    • Experience with CSS Preprocessors
    • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
