The Principal Business Intelligence Engineer is responsible for analyzing, designing and developing datasets, dimensional data models, reports and dashboards to support enterprise reporting and analytical requirements, with emphasis on making and implementing long term strategic decisions and projects. This includes following enterprise standards and the certified Dashboard UX framework to develop production-grade datasets, paginated reports and interactive dashboards based on business needs.
All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and MGM Resorts policies, practices and procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interpersonal, consultative and technical skills to develop Business Requirements Documents (BRD) and Technical Design Documents (TDD) and to use influence to advocate for best practices across the entire team.
Analyze and evaluate new data requirements for business intelligence dashboards and reports and collaborate with the data architecture team and the data services team to implement extremely complex data integrations involving multiple platforms, schemas and tables for business Intelligence products.
Design and implement scalable, user-friendly analytical models and visualization solutions sourcing data across platforms and review other models and solutions across the team, providing feedback and analyses for continual improvement and growth.
Own, troubleshoot and resolve extremely complex data issues for the business intelligence team via data and code analyses across all business intelligence platforms.
Strong communication and presentation skills and must possess exceptional ability to work well with individuals and teams at all levels, across all LOBs, governed KPIs and certified data sources.
Define and implement data security model across all business intelligence products including row level security and partitioning. Partner with the Master Data Management and Data Governance teams to ensure reporting solutions use governed KPIs and certified data sources.
Document project specific processes and data flows, data dependencies, data definitions and relevant business rules to support the Data Governance team. Review and provide feedback of documentation across the team and design and promote best practices.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, MIS, Mathematics or related area, or equivalent experience.
Ten (10) + years of prior relevant experience.
MS degree in Computer Science, Data Science, MIS, Mathematics or related area.
Experience establishing business service level agreements and driving adherence.
Solid experience in data preparation, data gateway and data warehousing projects.
Experience developing technical requirements for performance, quality, and scalability requirements.
