What you will do

This position will grow Stryker Joint Replacement and Trauma & Extremities capabilities in data analytics and management.  The Data Scientist will be responsible for discovering information hidden in our data to derive value for products and services, improve decision making, and build predictive algorithms to enhance outcomes and economic value.  This position will be part of the Sales Operations team and will bring strong quantitative skills to our data science capabilities.  In this position you will be engaged on projects that use advanced analytics techniques, such as optimization, forecasting, machine learning, predictive maintenance, and statistical analysis to develop solutions that help deliver significant value and clinical outcomes to internal and external customers.

Data Science/Database Modeling & Development

  • Ensure quality database design including documentation, testing and implementation of key metrics in Microsoft Azure sourced from the SQL Server database
  • Partner with IS and business intelligence consulting teams to develop, troubleshoot, and structure data assets that are critical to calculation of KPIs in systems such as PowerBI or Tableau
  • Query, wrangle, and transform large amounts of structured/unstructured data into a digestible format from multiple data sources to be used for graphics & visualization

Data Visualization, BI & Front-End Reporting

  • Leverage technical understanding and business acumen to translate high-level business requirements into technical and functional specifications to develop reporting & analytics for Senior Sales Management, Finance, Marketing, and other teams within and outside of Sales Operations
  • Utilize Microsoft Power BI to create/deliver actionable dashboards, management reports, ad hoc analysis relating to salesforce, hospital, surgeon and field usage, etc.
  • Partner with internal business partners to support their development of Power BI reports. Govern data appropriately, provide guidance on data usage and be the primary source of validation for teams outside of Sales Operations
  • Create/deliver executive sales dashboards for monthly review by Senior Sales Management.
  • Calculate monthly field sales performance and facilitate Senior Sales Management recognition tools.
  • Partner with Sales Analytics analysts to reduce manual reporting through use of advanced analytical tools such as 3Microsoft Power BI
  • Audit current processes; identify and implement methods to improve data accuracy and ease of report use. Recommend and implement accuracy, efficiency and productivity enhancements. Audit existing systems, determine and communicate gaps and opportunities to leadership.
  • Utilize data to identify trends and make recommendations around those trends.
  • Execute on defined road map of reports/visuals to be built into Power BI. Support ad hoc requests through Power BI when applicable. 

 PowerBI Training & Administration

  • Partner with IS to ensure system and data accuracy and accommodate user access requests.
  • Build & administer row-level security access in PowerBI Desktop & maintain proper security groups in the appropriate workspaces
  • Conduct live recorded field PowerBI trainings for the salesforce, Customer Service, and BOM teams
  • Own and conduct PowerBI training for the “Sales Ops Science” series for new hires

  • Execute and lead segments of complex product development to advance projects through the design /development/launch process.
  • Contribute to complex product development through release and lead one technical area of expertise.

  • Mentor, develop and inspire others in current and future roles.

What you need

  • Bachelor's in Software Engineering/ Computer Science with strong background in Statistics, Mathematics or related discipline or relevant experience
  •  2+ years of work experience
  • Preferred Master's Degree in Data Science, Applied Mathematics or Bioinformatics
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with cloud-based solutions in Azure (Preferred), AWS, or similar
  • Ability to analyze business situations and apply excellent organizational/communication skills and attention to detail in business case evaluation and requirements analysis
  • In-depth knowledge of supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms e.g. Linear regression, GLMs, tree-based models, neural networks, clustering, PCA, and time series models.
  • Proficiency in statistical tools / languages such as R (e.g. tidyverse, caret, mlr), Python (e.g. pandas, scikit-learn, numpy, scipy), Spark – MLlib, H20, or other tools Experience with contemporary deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
  • Competency with various query languages and databases such as SQL (T-SQL, PL/SQL, Spark SQL)
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Data Engineering and Data Architecture such as ETL/ELT pipelines, data movement and data quality with Big Data, relational and dimensional modeling, and unstructured data stores
  • In-depth knowledge of databases, data modeling, and distributed computing frameworks
  • Experience in software development environments using Agile / SCRUM, and code management/versioning (e.g. git)
  • Experience developing and testing statistical models and/or machine learning
